And it’s a perfect parallel to why Deaf don’t tend to want ASL students “helping”. You fundraise for our schools? You held a bake sale? You put up a booth about Deaf awareness? Great! But where are the DEAF people??
Giving money or showing support means very little if you’re not doing it WITH Deaf people. It’s like saying we can’t do it on our own, so you’ll do it for us! The “helper” model is outdated and offensive!
Do it WITH us, or not at all!
SUPPORT NAD! SUPPORT WFD! SUPPORT DEAF WITH DEAF!
